The unit was active from March 1942 to September 1945, and was part of the US Army Signal Corps. Unit history abstract- Organized and activated at Drew Field, Tampa Florida, March 30th 1942. Departed from San Francisco CA May 1942. Throughout the war, they were stationed at different points in New Zealand Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippines. Their primary function was to man the radar stations that warned of enemy air attacks. The unit was deactivated in September of 1945. For more information on the unit, feel free to reach out, and we will send you a full history of the unit. We cannot include it here due to eBay policy. Fair warning that the link will take awhile to load as it is contains 545 pages of scanned, declassified documents. It will tell you all you need to know about the 565th air corps. It is presumed that PFC Clinith enlisted in 1942, and according to his certificate was honorably discharged from the unit on January 6th, 1945 at the Fort Leavenworth Kansas Separation Center by Major Charles A. Rogers, A Company. The following objects are included in this grouping; all brought home by Richard A Clinith following his service. -Original WWII Air Raid Siren by Yahagi, mfg. ca 1941 in Japan. It is entirely complete and FUNCTIONAL with original leather cover, canvas strap, and the siren itself. It is in excellent very good shape, with one replacement screw and some chipped paint being the only shortcomings. These sirens were used in major Japanese cities to warn of approaching enemy aircraft. It was likely taken by Clinith either while in the recently liberated Philippines at the close of the war, or on a possible excursion to mainland Japan between September 1945 and his discharge on January 6th. -American Red Cross Crawford CO Chapter Sewing Kit, 1940s. Still contains pins and thread. -Sewing thimble with thread-American red Cross Crawford CO Chapter Bag This grouping was acquired directly from the family of Richard A. Clinith, with assurance that everything herein was brought back with him following his WWII service, and permission to disclose the information in this listing.
