Description: This is a hand signed book written by Major Herston Cooper, camp commander of POW Camp Crossville, which was located in Crossville TN. This book is the definitive history on the POW camp that used to be in Crossville, TN. I lived less than 4 miles from the camp, which is now a 4-H camp. I grew up in Crossville TN, graduated from high school there and I have owned this book for over 40 years. It is the last updated edition by Major Cooper in 1983 and it was given to a local college professor, who I knew very well. It is hand signed by Major Cooper when the book was given to to the professor who gave it to me. It has updated news articles, letters and maps from the author's archives and was the last printing of the book. There were only 100 copies of this edition made and none were sold. They were given to key local people who had an interest in the camp. Really a fascinating history of the camp and layout and stories from the Officer that was in charge of the camp during WW2. Major Cooper died in 1986 and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Columbarium 2 F-4-2. Gravestone Photo included with book. Shipping is free in the continental US.
