World War I Shell Casing Trench Art

Description: We were recently honored when a local family asked our help in liquidating some military related items from the estate of their father. The items range all the way from World War I up to the Vietnam era. The family always knew their father had these items but he never displayed them, instead he chose to keep them hidden inside his basement work bench. Unfortunately there is no history on how they were obtained nor who they may have belonged to. We do believe each piece to be original but ask that you rely on your knowledge and experience to make the final determination before placing a bid. This is an old shell casing that is just under 14 inches tall. The base is marked "AMLOT 75 MMG, LOT 8290 30, SCOVIL". We do not know what this means but trust you do. The shell casing has a rich patina and has been decorated with various designs including an image of the Navy anchor and what we believe to be a German cross. The words "World War" have been punched along the top and the dates "1914 and 1919" also appear on the top. Across the bottom you will find "USN" with the "N" looking as if it was never fully completed. We think this is a beautiful looking piece that must have taken many hours of work to complete. You will find a few small scratches and rubs from being handled during the past 100 years but there is no serious damage or noteworthy flaws to mention. We are far from being an expert on this piece so please rely on the photos and your personal knowledge and experience before placing a bid. Also worth mentioning that this is a heavier piece and will require a little more to cover the cost of shipping. To honor the auction process I will not end an auction early, I think this is the only way to make things fair for all bidders. For a variety of reasons, I also do not offer local pick up.
