Description: For sale is a vintage three (3) pack socket set. Two of them are Williams and the other is P&C. These were part of a small tool collection I acquired at an estate auction. Ready to ship out today in time for Christmas. My research on these unique sockets is found below. Thanks for shopping! Williams Sockets (2) Williams has made strong, trusted tools for industrial professionals since 1882. It’s first factory in Red Hook, Brooklyn, NYC, revolutionized drop forging, “blacksmithing by machinery,” to ensure all pieces were created with the same consistency and quality. * 1-13/16" compatible with a 3/4" drive. It is stamped H-1238 and USA. It's in great shape. In my research, I haven't been able to find any vintage H-1238 that look the same, so I'm not able to date this one, but I suppose it came in a box-set or something from the early 50's. Maker's mark is Williams with the "long S" and USA, which first appeared on tools as shown here in 1947 (AlloyArtifacts.org). * 1-1/8" deepwell compatible with a 1/2" drive. Stamped SD-1236 and USA. Williams still offers this line socket today. A new socket from this model line lists for $16.00. The example being offered looks to be from the 1980's. It it clearly newer than the one above, but it has the same "long S" Williams stamp. P&C Socket (1) P&C is best known as a subsidiary of Plomb Tool (later Proto), but was an interesting and innovative company in its own right. Founded around 1920, the company had developed a very extensive line of automotive service tools by the end of the 1920s. In addition to establishing its own line of tools, P&C also served as the direct or indirect catalyst in the founding of two other tool businesses: Thorsen Manufacturing of Oakland, California, and General Tool of Portland, Oregon. * 7/8" deepwell socket. Stamped 6128 and USA. The "P&C Hex" logo as it is called first appeared in 1926, but it wasn't until after 1953 that they began using the registered trademark R as shown in this example. This socket is from the mid-late 1950's based on information at AlloyArtifacts.org.
