However, there is an acid-free backing with this so you should try to fit that in the frame too. It needs to go behind glass to keep it clean. The top mat is white and the bottom is a blue that is in the picture so it matches. The little bit of black you see around the outside is just the background and not part of the painting. I had to use a black background for the white mat to show up.
