I am within 2 hours of NYC, Washington DC and 30 minutes from Philadelphia. My mom bought this in 1965 in Germany when we lived there. From the research I did it looks like the marking could be from pre-1948 because starting in 1949 "Made in Germany" was replaced with "Made in GDR". She had several sets of China so this was only used a few times - excellent condition. One coffee cup has slight chip (see photos) but it can still be used due to the location. I did not see any other chips or cracks. The gold is in excellent shape. Several of the pieces (mainly large plates) have slight scratches for use but they are very hard to see unless you hold them up to the light.
