Vintage Set of 3 George Papadoperakis Mykonos Island Windmill Watercolors

Description: What a wonderful little collection of vintage watercolor paintings of the windmills of the Greek Mykonos Island by Greek watercolor artist George Papadoperakis. These are very striking impressionistic watercolors of this well-known, highly sought after iconic buildings and windmills of the Greek world. The pieces are signed in either the right or left hand corner with the recognizable signature of this well known Greek artist. These came from an Estate Sale of world travelers and art collectors and they are clearly originals. They are professionally framed and matted by Eastside Picture Framing of Grosse Point Farms MI. The style of the frames, and the fact that the phone numbers are presented without area code, lead me to believe these are late 1960s/early 1970s pieces. They are really in very nice condition. The frames are wooden with aqua blue and gold accents and all three are still sturdy. The matting is neutral with a hand-drawn black accent to frame the small watercolor pieces. The frames have some nicks and spots in the paint, but really quite clean. The mats have a few stains/spots under the glass and there is a bit of dusty look. They are all behind glass. The backs are covered in brown finishing paper with hanging wires. The backs have some age staining. Each is stamped with the framing shop details. Details of the artist background: George Papadoperakis was born in Knossos (Crete) in 1940. From an early age George showed a special interest in painting and particularly in watercolor painting. His watercolors usually depict the luminous landscape of the Greek islands, the Greek countryside and parts of Athens that are closely related to the ancient history of the city.
