Description: Crane and Calligraphy. Painted with ink and light pigments on silk. Signed and sealed. Otani Kubutsu(1875-1943)was a Japanese monk and haiku poet. He was the 23rd head priest of Higashi Hongan-ji Temple in Kyoto. He learned calligraphy as well as painting from various schools and studied painting from some prominent artists such as Kono Bairei(1844-1895) and Takeuchi Seiho(1864-1942). Some insignificant light marks, light crease and foxing are present on the painting, and some light marks are present on the scroll mounting, otherwise the piece is in good condition. It is accompanied by a paulownia wood storage box.
