Vintage Frankoma Pottery Plainsman, Salad Or Soup Bowl

Description: For Frankoma lovers, a 1940’s vintage soup or salad bowl, labeled 6N, with a traditional “Plainsman” glaze. The clay is red, so it appears to be an early piece. The Frankoma Pottery first opened in 1943, and moved one time, from Norman, OK, to Sapulpa, OK, and with the move, clay was sourced from a new location. The early pieces have a red color, and later ones, have a clay body which appears brown. This is a handsome bowl, and very practical size, suitable for soup or salad. it is a practical size, 3 inches deep, measuring 7.5 inches wide. There is a small defect on the rim of the bowl, only a few mm in size. It is smooth, and surrounded by glaze, which is typical for a glazing defect—which sometimes happens, while a pot is glazed and kiln-fired. It should not affect the integrity of the bowl. It would have likely been noticed, at the pottery, and the bowl sold as a “second” because of the defect. It’s not noticeable, but I try to note anything I see. This is the kind of flaw I typically don’t notice until I’m inspecting something I’m about to list for sale. I’ve used this bowl for several years, and never noticed the small indentation on the rim until now. This would be a great addition to any collection of Frankoma pottery. This piece is very understated in style; a traditional practical bowl shape, without any ornamentation, recognizable as Frankoma primarily by the glaze. It’s stamped FRANKOMA 6N on the base.
