Vintage 1934 18" Ideal Shirley Temple Compo Tag in Head Doll in Curly Top Dress

Description: DESCRIPTION: Vintage 1934 18" Ideal Shirley Temple Compo Tag in Head Doll Wearing the Red Embroidered Curly Top Dress.This sweet Shirley is a "tag head" - so called because when Shirley shot to stardom in 1934 Ideal rushed to produce the first Shirley Temple dolls in time for Christmas that year. The first dolls were not marked on the head or body but instead had a paper tag inside the head that read: "Copyright 1934 Ideal Novelty and Toy Co." (see last photo) Shirley is all composition, jointed at the neck, shoulders and hips, with working clear hazel sleep eyes with thick, brush lashes - all original facial features that include multi-stroke eyebrows, eye lashes, light cheek blush, open smiling mouth showing six upper teeth, felt tongue and a dimple in each cheek. Shirley's mohair wig is edged with bias tape - these were only used on the first production dolls and it is original. Strung tightly - she can stand and pose. Good fingers and toes (one small finger tip chip.) Wearing her sweet red and white dress, with embroidered flowers from the movie Curly Top. Replaced hair ribbon, panties - vintage replaced socks and shoes.CONDITION:Doll is in good original condition. Painted facial features are in good condition. Mohair wig is original but somewhat thin and out of the original curls. She has very light crazing. Small paint rubs on joints and a chip on the tip of a finger - a crack on her torso above one hip. Free of any other large cracks, chips, lifting or flaking paint. Working clear sleep eyes have full lashes. Strung tightly - she can stand and pose. Good condition vintage dress, socks and shoes. Dress has age wear and has faded somewhat. It has a repair to the seam in back and is missing its tag. Shoes and socks have light age wear. Shoes have both their buckles and good soles. MARKED: Has the 1934 tag inside her head that reads: Ideal Novelty and Toy Co.
