Description: University Lady Single Greetings Antique Postcard.Glitter 1905. PUBL:Illustrated This is a nice postcard showing a PRETTY LADY dressed in a full red dress and hat, carrying a flag for the sports event at a UNIVERSITY. It has a "C", so it could represent Cornell, Columbia, Chicago, etc. This postcard is ANTIQUE from the early 1900s, and it has a copyright date of 1905. The postcard is also a NOVELTY postcard and it has GLITTER all through the design. Postcards with GLITTER were unique and sought after. Adding the glitter was one of the last steps in making the postcard, and it was almost always done by hand. Because of the extra steps needed to make glitter postcards, they only had a "short life". These are now collector items, and they are a pleasure to look at. This postcard is a collector item that will keep its value. The publisher of this postcard, Illustrated Postal Card (1904-14; New York, Berlin), was a major USA publisher of postcards and published in Germany (Leipzig, Saxony). Besides postcards, they also published fine art cards that were very popular. The company has a distinctive eagle trademark logo and is considered one of the “most wanted publishers” by collectors. They produced many beautifully embossed, heavy embossed (with an extra sheet on the back), air brushed, and glitter postcards. They were one of the most respected publishing houses during the “Golden Age of Postcards” (1908-1915 era). Overall, a very nice University antique glitter postcard. This postcard is a collector item because of its age, the way it was made, and its overall appeal to Novelty Postcard collectors. The postcard is POSTED with a cancel date of 1905. This postcard would have been "Printed In Germany". This postcard has an UNDIVIDED BACK. This type of back was used on postcards from 1901-1907. An undivided back is a good indicator of the age of the postcard and its historical significance. During this time period, ONLY THE ADDRESS could be put on the back, and any writing message had to be done on the front. This is a collector item because of its age, and the limited number of such postcards in existence today. Also, collectors like to own a postcard that was published in the beginning years of the postcard hobby. This is a BETTER POSTCARD and good for a collector. The postcard will keep its value! It is sleeved and in good condition. However, please expect some creases, cuts, stains, paper toning, and edge wear due to its age (over 100 years old!). The photos show the postcard and its back. The postcard is shipped in a sturdy envelope. We only ship within the USA; we do not ship internationally. USA shipping is with tracking, and we use eBay Standard Envelope mail when the value is under $20 and the weight is under 3 oz; and, we use USPS Ground Advantage when the value is over $20 or the weight is over 3 oz.
