Description: Up for sale, from my pilot watch collection, is this extraordinary 1944 vintage German Flieger mechanical chronograph wrist watch. In excellent working and cosmetic condition, it’s a fine example of this iconic tool watch that was issued during WWII to Luftwaffe pilots. In the canon of early pilots chronographs, the Urofa 59 is an absolute classic. This straight wind mechanical chronograph has two registers: continuous seconds and a 30 minute recorder. Both the dial and hands have the original lume in place. The excellent sterile (no logo) late war matte black dial has some very slight age spotting. It shows light wear and tear on the stainless steel case overall. The bidirectional turning elapsed time recording bezel and round pushers are newer replacements as well as the acrylic crystal. I have the original pushers and they’re included in the sale. Oversized crown designed for gloved hands is original. The 39 mm diameter case size makes for a very comfortable and legible watch. The German made 17 jewel Glaschutte caliber Urofa 59 movement is running strong and keeps excellent time. Chronograph functions are working well. One reason these watches are so sought after is that this movement is a true flyback chronograph. Meaning you can reset the chronograph hands at any time while it’s running without having to stop it first and will continue to run. I don’t know its service history and it will need a service at some point in the future. It’s fitted with a new 20 mm olive drab nylon NATO style strap. Also included is a custom made light brown leather strap that’s made to fit over the fixed lugs. Let me know if you have any questions. Remember, keep time the vintage way!
