Description: An original hand-painted calligraphic artwork by the Vietnamese Buddhist monk, activist, teacher and artist Thich Nhat Hanh (1926-2022), with the words 'Breathe and Smile.' I acquired this at a Thich Nhat Hanh retreat at YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, Colorado, in August/September 2005. After a Dharma Talk by Thich Nhat Hanh (known as Thay, meaning 'master' or 'teacher'), his close associate Sister Chan Khong announced she would be selling original calligraphic works by Thay to raise funds for their organization. She had a number of original brushed ink on paper artworks, each with different words hand painted by Thay, and I happened to be standing very near her when she made the announcement. I was one of the first--if not the first--to reach her, and purchased three works. [I've included in this listing a photo I took of Thay leading a walking meditation at this retreat.] I framed one, gave another to a close friend, and archivally stored this, the third, since acquiring it. It is in perfect, as-new condition. It measures 23 1/8" x 16 3/4", and is painted on paper with a subtle pattern in the background and a more visible pattern on the borders. Thich Nhat Hanh has signed it using his red seal. A portion of the sales price will be donated to the Thich Nhat Hanh Foundation. With our written lifetime guarantee of authenticity.
