Description: Superb Iconic US Designer Jules Brenner Sterling Silver Modernist Large Biomorphic Lizard Brooch Circa 1950s Measurements: 3.4"L x 1.25"W (8.64cm x 3.18cm) Markings: Jules Brenner Sterling Weight: 11.4g Quite a fantastic and rare piece. Handmade sterling silver large biomorphic minimalist lizard brooch with a hammered textured finish. I gave it a light cleaning but it still has some patina and loads of character. Terrific collector's piece. Included with purchase is a silver converter so it can be worn as a pendant if preferred. Jules Brenner (1917-1991) Born in New York City, he studied and trained painting and sculpting. In the late 1940's he moved to Provincetown were he worked with Ed Wiener creating "large, functional objects hammered from copper and brass". He turned to jewelry as his main focus in 1951, and he and his wife opened a Summer shop in Woodstock, NY. In 1953 he moved back to Greenwich Village and at the time, he worked mostly with Sterling Silver using simple biomorphic shapes with added wire and sometimes semi precious stones. In 1963 he began to work with gold in a more naturalistic style using a combination of handwork and lost-wax casting.
