Description: How true it is that words are but the vague shadows of the volumes we mean. Little audible links, they are, chaining together great inaudible feelings and purposes. Here we offer a very early edition of Theodore Dreiser's classic, Sister Carrie. The first Doubleday-Page edition (without facsimile) is too scarce for even me to trade in. The second edition was the first mass-produced and facsimile-accompanied edition, issued in 1907 by Dodge and Company, New York. It was later in the same year continued in nearly-identical form by Grosset and Dunlap. This is the Grosset and Dunlap form. Grosset and Dunlap would use slightly less expensive processes and add a packet of ads to the rear so to be able to offer at a lower price. Boards have typical edgewear and light spots on the spine. Half-inch tear to cloth at left edge of the spine head (please see pics.) Period-inscribed endpages are intact. Very tight, and square binding. Very clean and bright text. 557 pages, plus several pages of ads. Measures approximately 8 x 5.25-inches. This classic early edition will make a wonderful addition to your collection or a marvelous gift.** Have you seen all the amazing first and rare editions of iconic books we offer?
