Victoria (Alexandrina Victoria; 24 May 1819 – 22 January 1901) was Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 20 June 1837 until her death in 1901. Her reign of 63 years and 216 days which was longer than those of any of her predecessors constituted the Victorian era. In 1887, the British Empire celebrated Victoria's Golden Jubilee. She marked the fiftieth anniversary of her accession on 20 June with a banquet to which 50 kings and princes were invited. The British gold sovereign and half sovereign has been struck since 1817. It was originally a circulating coin accepted in Britain and elsewhere in the world. It is now a bullion coin.
