Description: Heavy incisions decorate the exterior of this jug. Peer inside the mouth of the vessel for confirmation that it was crafted using the traditional coil method. Fire clouds on the exterior confirm traditional pit firing while an animal effigy clings to the lip of the vessel, establishing a stable handle. This piece comes to us from a collector whose aged notes can be found in the well of the vessel. Amanda Swimmer is a potter of renown, who prioritized fidelity to traditional methods of construction. Her work was hand-sculpted, then etched using natural materials such as shells or rocks. She was a founder of the Cherokee Potter's Guild and her pieces are highly collectible. She passed in 2018. We studied auction results over the last 18 years and found that fewer than 10% of the artist's work feature effigies, making this a special piece. It measures roughly 7" tall from the top of the effigy. Please note that we do not import or export ancient items.
