Description: An Early 19th c. Free Blown Open Compote, Likely Pittsburgh, PA in Origin With a thick and dense lily pad hand-gathered glass design!Light dances and plays in this majestic and massive, 10” Early American free blown centerpiece! Made from flint glass with exceptional translucency, this beautiful footed bowl would look perfect on any sunny surface! Featuring a wide, baluster-style pedestal base that tapers quickly into a deep, thick glass bowl with hand-gathered Lily Pad Type II designs, this immense piece will beguile you with its beauty!This piece was made in the early 19th Century by an American glass house. The pedestal base and overall design matches pieces identified as being made in Pittsburgh, PA, but the Lily Pad design is reminiscent of pieces made in New Jersey or Upstate New York. This piece has a rough pontil scar and glows faintly green/blue under black light.The last photo is another compote that was identified as being from Pittsburgh by Pook & Pook auctions and is included for comparison purposes only.
