Description: Welcome to this listing for an original antique Pennsylvania National Guard leather McKeever cartridge box. This box that would have held .45-70 cartridges. One empty brass is in the box. The dark brown leather box measures approximately seven inches wide, four inches high, and 1 1/2 inches deep. There are two leather belt loops on the back that are completely intact. The box is embossed with "N.G.P." on front cover. It is held closed with a leather strap using a brass finial. The strap is stamped with manufacturer's information. The strap surface shows age so it is hard to make out the information on the mark. The box contains two rows of ten canvas loops for twenty .45-70 caliber cartridges and opens by folding down on a brass hinge. The McKeever Cartridge Box was used from the Indian Wars through the Spanish American War. This example is an authentic Cartridge Box and NOT a copy or reproduction. The box is in very good condition but does shows some age from storage and actual use. The box opens and shuts properly. The leather strap and brass finial for holding the box shut is present. The inner canvas cartridge loops are in good shape. The outside leather does show some light age in the form of cracking and crazing. Please look at all the photos to judge condition for yourself. You will receive the exact item pictured. Ask any questions necessary prior to bidding.
