The author, a private in the Virginia Cavalry, was taken prisoner by Sheridan's troops in December, 1863, following a skirmish at Charles City Courthouse, Virginia. This pamphlet gives a brief account of his experiences as a prisoner of war at the Federal prison camp at Point Lookout, Maryland. Some typographical ambiguity has led to confusion regarding the author's correct initials; most cataloguers have identified him as "C(harles) W. Jones," which we believe to be incorrect - Co. H of the 24th Va. Cavalry in fact had both a "C.W." and a "G.W." in its ranks, and to our eyes at least the printed initial here is a "G." Not in Swem or Cappon.
