Description: Japanese Wakizashi sword blade. Unsigned blade. Two-hole nakago (tang). Two thin groves on blade tang area. No habaki (blade collar), has a wavey hamon (tempering line) and has good luck mark engraved each side of blade. The blade has much graying, spotting, scratches, and a lot of wear. Blade length approximately 15 inches, overall bare length approximately 20 1/2 inches counting tang. Most likely Edo era. Very heavily worn condition. Additional Notes: Wakizashi blades are typically between 12 inches to 24 inches or (30-60cm) or (between 1 and 2 shaku). The wakizashi (side inserted sword) is one of the traditionally made Japanese swords (nihonto) worn by the samurai in feudal Japan. Its name refers to the practice of wearing it inserted through one’s obi or sash at one’s side, whereas the larger tachi sword was worn slung from a cord.The Edo Period refers to the years from 1603 until 1868 when the Tokugawa family ruled Japan. The era is named after the city of Edo, modern-day Tokyo, where the Tokugawa shogunate had its government.
