Description: Battalion 402, "Reshaf", was established on the southern front during the War of Independence, as the "2nd Field Battalion" under the command of Ephraim Shorer. The battalion initially operated Napoleonchik guns and later Krupp 75 mm guns. The battalion participated in Operation Yoav, Operation Hiram and Operation Horeb. In 1956, a 25-pounder gun battery provided artillery support during Operation Samaria. In the Sinai War, the battalion fought with the 9th Brigade. In the 1960s, the battalion assisted the Golani Brigade in Operation Hargol and Operation Snunit. In 1966, a 30 mm gun battery was attached to the battalion, which participated in the War on Water by firing directly at Syrian positions. The battalion participated in the Iron Swords War, in which the battalion provided fire support for 90 days to the 401st Infantry Regiment in its missions in the northern Gaza Strip.
