Description: The Douglas DC-9 is an American single-aisle, twin jet engine transport aircraft. It is powered by two Pratt and Whitney JT8D low bypass turbo fan engines. The DC-9 had its first flight on 25 February 1965 as the DC-9-10. Delta Airlines became the first to use the DC-9 on 8 December 1965. The DC-9-30 Series first flew in August of 1966 and was introduced into service in February 1967. The Series 30 model has a fuselage stretch of 15 feet to 119 feet, 3.6 inches, a larger wing and more powerful engines for a higher maximum takeoff weight than the original series. The DC-9-40 was stretched to 125 feet, 7.2 inches. The DC-9-50, the last in the series was stretched even more to a length of 133 feet 7 inches.There were 976 manufactured of multiple variants between 1965-1982. North Central Airlines was founded in 1944 as Wisconsin Central Airlines. The airline was a local service carrier serving the Midwestern United States. In 1952 the airline commenced service as North Central Airlines, and it's headquarters were moved to Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1979, North Central was merged with Southern Airways, and became Republic Airways. In 1986, Republic was merged with Northwest Airlines. Throughout North Central's history, they had 150 aircraft in their inventory. North Central's aircraft changed to Republic's livery after the merger. Republic had 193 aircraft in their inventory at the time of their change to Northwest. This Republic Airlines DC-9-51 with registration N784NC, had its first flight on 05 December 1979. It was delivered to Republic on 20 February 1980. The livery was changed to Northwest Airlines on 01 October 1986. N784NC continued with Northwest until the Northwest/Delta merger, when the livery was once again changed to the Delta Airlines on 28 October 2008. The aircraft provided service with Delta until it was taken out of service and ultimately scrapped (how very, very, sad).
