These pictorial news broadsides were primarily produced and used between 1920 and 1963 to show the news as a displayable picture in the era before television. Each issue consists of a single sheet with photographs of a particular event or subject of current interest. They were changed in the store window on a regular basis (daily or weekly) by the Pictorial News representative visiting the stores. They were primarily displayed in retail store windows for people to see, and thus was useful to the merchant in having people stop at the store and increase foot traffic , hopefully resulting in increased sales.
