Kirk Hammett's 1979sFlying V is a familiar guitar to Metallica fans around the world. This guitar was Kirk's first Gibson, and it is a memorable one that established his passion for Gibson guitars. The impetus for purchasing it stemmed from being inspired by the famous Flying V player that Kirk admired at the time, and because he wanted a fuller sound. Kirk still plays that original guitar and has played it on all of Metallica's early albums, including Kill ;Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All, and The Black Album. I used that guitar. Kirk's Flying V is highly regarded as one of the most important guitars in the heavy metal world. Epiphone, in collaboration with Gibson Custom Shop, is pleased to announce the release of the Epiphone Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V, a painstaking recreation of Kirk's original guitar. In addition to the iconic Ebony color, the Purple Metallic color, which is the same color as the Gibson Custom Shop model used on the tour for the latest album "72 Seasons", will also be released at the same time. A faithful reproduction of Kirk's original, this model features a one-piece mahogany neck with volute, "Spade" button Grover pegs, and a custom bridge. Furthermore, the pickup uses a Gibson T-Type humbucker, and the electronics include a CTS pot, an Orange Drop capacitor, and a Switchcraft toggle switch.
