Durham Duplex Razor Demonstrator Salesman Sample Orig Box Instruc Coupon C. 1907

Description: This is a vintage "demonstrator" Durham Duplex long comb straight razor model given to potential customers as a way to get them to buy a more deluxe model by using the enclosed coupon. This sample version has a simple black leather cover over the blade as opposed to the purchased model that had white (or other colors) hard cover. It comes with its original box which advertises the razor as "A Working Model of Durham Duplex Razor," as well as the instructions and unused coupon. The razor has its original blade and blade holder/protector. The holder is also marked as a "demonstrator" and the blade and the shaft of the razor arm have a patent date of May 28, 1907. The box is about 6" long by 1-3/8" wide by 3/4" thick. The razor is about 5-7/8" long closed and 8-3/4" long when fully open. The metal part of the razor is about 5-3/8" long from the end of the arm to the end of the blade holder. The blade holder (the part with the "teeth" that contains the blade) is about 2-1/4" long. The razor is in very good condition overall. The blade and guard lock securely to the razor arm. The leather is in good condition with no cracking. The box is missing the end flaps on one end (see photo) and the back of the box is not legible. The instructions/sales pitch/coupon is frayed with small tears on one side, but is very legible, including the graphics. Nifty piece of shaving advertising history and one of the first long comb safety straight razors ever made. A forerunner to the later t-handle safety razors.
