Description: Original 7.25” x 9.5” V. Laviosa of Rome and New York autographed matte photograph on a photographer’s mat inscribed in white ink to New York Philharmonic trombonist George Lucas. According to the Library of Congress, the photograph dates to 1926, Toscanini was made co-Music Director of the New York Philharmonic in 1928. Trombonist George Lucas (January 1, 1886– January 1, 1981) to whom the photograph was signed, was born in England and came to the United States with his parents at the age of 6. He started his musical education at 10, toured with the Pinto’s New York Symphony Society and made a Carnegie Hall debut in 1908 as part of Arnold Volpe’s the Volpe Symphony Society of New York. He also played with several other orchestras prior to his brass band experience. Lucas played for Sousa’s Band, Arthur Pryor’s Band, Conway’s Band and The Goldman Band. He also made Sousa’s world tour in 1910 and 1911. He joined the New York Philharmonic in 1923. The photograph is quite fine, that said, it must have been framed and displayed in an area which received lots of light and the writing has unevenly faded in part. That said it is an uncommon image to find autographed. Harmonie Autographs and Music, Inc.Music Antiquarian and AppraiserNew York, New YorkAll items guaranteed authentic
