You will find many of these unmarked or when marked on the back, you might find.... Limoges France, Austria, Germany, Japan, etc. Most of these that are marked are Japan or "Nippon" which means Japan and was used up until about 1915.Some will be artist signed, some not. Most of these have a lovely luster glaze that was very hard to photograph.It was a very popular past time for young ladies to show their artist skills with China Painting. Some were hired by factories to china paint their wares for sale.In the United States, Pickard China assembled a group of men and women china painters, many emigrating from Europe, to create this uniquely American style of hand-painted china. Many of the original artists were from the Art Institute of Chicago. At first all the porcelain blanks were manufactured in Europe. Pickard would import the blank plates and decorate them in their studio. Today China painting is still popular among ladies who are very talented. I have a friend who china paints and she has given me several gifts she painted for me...I treasure them dearly.These measure anywhere from 6 1/4" to 6 1/2" wide. the 2 with handles are a little larger.
