The blade is signed *** "Dewa Daijo Fujiwara Kunimichi". From the Edo period ca. 1600 era made blade. The forging grain is tight, no openings, no blister and no forging flaws. There is no bends, cracks and cutting edge is very sharp. It has a very beautiful and UNUSUAL Hamon (Temper Line) pattern. The Tsuka (handle) is tight fit with gold overlay shakudo fuchi / kashira. The Tsuba (hand guard) is marugata shape copper, signed "Toshimichi". It measures 17 1/2 inches cutting edge, 1 3/16" width, 7 mm thickness at the notch and 25 1/4" in the mountings. (***The swordsmith Dewa Daijo Fujiwara Kunimichi was born in 1576, The birthplace and family is unclear. However he became the disciple of Iga Kami Kinmichi and later learned from Horikawa Kunihiro. In 1615, he received the title Dewa Daijo (this title indicates a high ranking and respected position, often granted to swordsmiths who have demonstrated exceptional skill and craftsmanship).
