Description: C1860-1890s Antique Shell Cameo Brooch measuring 2-3/8” x 1-5/8” in good condition. Cameo is 1-15/16” x 1-7/16” and was meticulously carved but has old repair and crack as shown. Details reflect Classical styles popular during the Victorian period. Excellent craftsmanship in the setting and bezel metalwork. Not a mass produced item. Joint , catch, and coil pin are fully functional . Decorated with 2.5mm half drilled pearls (one missing) and nicked in marcasites. There is an illegible quality mark or signature visible and we are offering this as brass that was likely treated with a gold wash (plating, since worn off).
