Description: This gorgeous, evocative little volume must have been of great comfort and quite transporting for a lucky World War I soldier. It is in good condition, especially for a book that is over a century old. There is binding separation of the first few pages. Parts have been annotated. The inside back cover has some damage, there is minor staining of the front cover. But. The gilded lettering on the cover is gorgeous. The War Service Library plate is gorgeous. The frontispiece illustration is gorgeous. The type is gorgeous. And the idea of owning a book of poetry that provided solace to a doughboy… well… you can’t really put a value on that. I usually ship books Medis Mail, but this will go Priority. Here is something I found in another listing of a War Service Library Book that I thought was worth sharing: Antique 1915 WW1 Service Library Mechanical Drafting by H. W. Miller. - A detailed handbook on technical drawing containing information on all aspects of mechanic drafting with black and white illustrations throughout. - Bookplate inside front cover indicating it was part of the WW1 United States War Service Library. The Library War Service was established by the American Library Association in 1917 to provide library services to American soldiers training in camps and serving overseas in World War I. Between 1917 and 1920, the ALA raised $5 million from public donations, erected 36 camp libraries, distributed 7 to 10 million books and magazines, and provided library collections to more than 500 locations, including military hospitals.
