Description: Before you send me any messages about this lot, please read the following: You are bidding on an autograph which I collected circa 1983. I obtained this autograph by writing to the player at his home address. When I wrote to the player I enclosed one or more items for him to sign, along with a self-addressed stamped envelope to send back the signed item. Some players chose not to respond to autograph requests, but many did. Unlike today, where professional sports is a thoroughly commercialized endeavor, most players were somewhat accessible - even Joe DiMaggio and Willie Mays would generally make time to sign an autograph. To help establish the authenticity of the autograph, I am including in this lot the envelope mailed back to me by the player. The envelope establishes that I wrote to the player back in 1983, and that I'm not selling you a fake autopen signature that I obtained last week. Additionally, if you have any concern that the signature could have been made not by the player but by a private secretary, you can compare the signature with others offered elsewhere. Should you have any questions about this listing, I probably can't tell you very much - in fact I really haven't followed baseball in recent decades and am now woefully ignorant about the game. I've had some modest success selling ancient coins on eBay, and just thought that this platform might be a good place to list my old baseball memorabilia. Thank you for your interest.
