Sammy Hale, 1923 Philadelphia Athletics 3B The Sporting News Charles Martin Conlon 4x5-inch Limited Edition Card #56 From the early days of the dawning of the 20th century, the photographic artistry of Charles Conlon was featured in baseball guides, daily newspapers, monthly magazines and, of course, The Sporting News - then America's Base Ball paper of record. Conlon's work also appeared on baseball cards. After a 60-year absence from that medium, in 1981 The Sporting News created a 100-card set from original Conlon glass negatives. Issued in classic sepia, this is one of those cards. Unlike subsequent Conlon Collection cards which feature superior baseball writing, the backs of cards from this set are blank.
