19th Century Boarding (Or Fire?) Axe Military?

Description: 19th Century Boarding (Or Fire?) Axe Very interesting old tool. Possible old military, but I am not sure of its origin. US? Foreign? I was told by a very knowledgible tool collector that this is a boarding axe...please let me know if that is not correct. I thought it could be an early fireman's axe as well. The only marking that I can see is the number 37 on one side of the ace head. It measures approx 15" from top to bottom. The axe head measures approx 10" front to back and is apporox 7/8" thick at the thickest point. I welcome any information that you may have regarding this axe.
