Printed and Published by Penola, Inc, Standard Oil Co., New York. This issue contains 24 pages including the covers and measures approximately 11” x 8-1/2”. Vol. 11, No. 1. The purpose of the magazine seems to be to educate both the Petroleum community and the world at large about the uses advancement in in petroleum. All stories, no ads. The cover page has a great action shot of a plant worker working with a huge turbine. Some of the articles included are: the lead article showing actress Marie McDonald showing off her attractive legs. Esso's metallic zirconium flash bulbs contributed to the excellent photo results. This story continues to give examples of how the company uses elements, such as Strontium, Cerium, Caesium and Lithium for "better lives." An article about petroleum as lubricants follows that. A further article shows how Esso's products support the war effort … and much much more. This incredible bit of history, "Esso Oilways Magazine" is in very good condition, but it does have some minor flaws: a bit of wear on the edges and spine, a slightly dog-eared corner, an occasional light spot of soiling. However the interior pages are clean and bright, and in very good condition Overall it is a nice souvenir of a past era.
