Description: 1850's era Asa Warren A.W. White Parlor guitar Boston Mass Jerome tuners Description RARE! Parlor guitar hand built by Violin maker Asa Warren White in Boston Massachusetts. Label bares the 86 Tremont address which is where the majority of his instruments were built between 1853 - 1876. Guitar is both labeled, and branded on the back of the headstock (see pics) Brazilian rosewood body measures 11.75 at lower bout, and 8 5/8 at upper bout, overall body length 18.25. Body depth is 3.75, and the scale measures 25 inches. Ebony fingerboard with Mother of pearl inlays. Neck is straight, low action, but frets are small and it starts fretting out beyond the 7th fret. It will need a fret job. That being said it is a really good sounding warm guitar superior to 19th century Martin's I've played. Original Jerome tuning machines are in excellent condition, replacement bridge from TJ Thompson. Ships in nice hardshell case. PLEASE READ There are several repaired cracks on the sides which have been both glued and cleated where possible. Sides are solid Brazilian rosewood, the back is a two piece with the exterior being rosewood. This is exactly how Martin made their early guitars. Overall the back is in pretty nice shape with a couple cracks below the neck joint, that don't move, and a couple other repaired surface cracks on the treble side (see pics). Top is also in decent shape, but has a crack on the bass side near the bridge, and some cracks below the bridge. At some point there was an oversized classical type bridge added of which you can still see the outline. Finish has been revarnished over the years, and could probably be improved. It should also be noted that originally the neck had no proper dovetail joint and was secured directly to the sides. It has since been converted to a regular dovetail joint for practical purposes.
