Description: 10 Cortland apple tree seeds. Stratified and ready to plant. The Cortland is a cold-hardy apple. It has exceptional freshness, sweet taste, a crisp, succulent and juicy flavor.Only the seeds are for sale, as shown in Photo 1, without root shoots. Cortland is a cultivar of apple developed at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, New York, United States in 1898.The apple was named after nearby Cortland County, New York.It is among the fifteen most popular in the United States and Canada. After the many attributes of McIntosh were discovered, plant breeders began crossing it with other varieties to enhance its traits. One of the earliest was the 'Cortland'. Its flavor is sweet compared to McIntosh, and it has a flush of crimson against a pale yellow or green background sprinkled with short, dark red stripes and gray-green dots. It has white flesh and is resistant to browning. You may start your seeds indoors and transplant when it is time,or you can let nature do the work for you and plant the seedsdirectly where you wish them to grow. The drawback on the second option is that seeds are a food sourcefor rodents, birds and squirrels, etc. although it is less time consuming. Have you ever noticed that tree seeds are not sold in stores?Flower and vegetable seeds are, because they are easy to grow.Tree seeds have their own biological clock that tells them it is time to grow.A lot goes on under the soil before a shoot emerges and I have foundthat in most cases a person gives up and does not give the seeds enoughtime to grow. I have done this and thought the seeds had perished, butto many times when I dug it up there was a long root. Another option that I find more interesting is: (Photo 5) Use a smaller piece of paper towel, place the seeds, not touching, and fold the paper towelso the seeds are in between. Place in a zip lock quart bag, adding just a bit of water, enough to moisten the paper towel. Zip closed and put into the refrigerator, laying flat.In 4 to 8 weeks small roots will appear at which time the seeds can then be planted in soil. No germination testing has been done on these seeds.I cannot guarantee the success rate of the seeds as there are to manyfactors that go into growing them.I stratify them and keep them in cold storage until right before shipment.Apple trees require another variety of apple tree for cross pollination.Collected in the spring of 2022.Only the seeds are for sale. Any other photos are for informational purposes, only.I will accept returns, in original condition.Thank you and happy planting.
